Los Angeles CA DMV Offices: 7 Locations, Hours & Services

There are seven Los Angeles CA DMV offices, from Winnetka and Arleta in the San Fernando Valley to San Pedro at the harbor, and they don’t all do the same work: Hollywood handles licenses but not vehicles, Arleta handles vehicles but not licenses, and only Arleta and Winnetka give commercial drive tests. All seven keep the same weekday hours, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with a 9:00 a.m. start on Wednesdays, and San Pedro is closed for renovation until Nov. 18. Check the table before you go, then pick the nearest office that handles your task.

Every office except Hollywood has a self-service kiosk, and drive tests at all of them are by appointment. Two names cause most mix-ups: the office the DMV calls “Los Angeles” is the one on Hope Street, not the Los Angeles Metro Industry Business Center in Covina, which serves dealers; and the office on Van Nuys Boulevard is Arleta, while the Van Nuys DMV is on Vanowen Street. Mobile license help is based on the DMV’s list of offices that help in person.

Which Los Angeles DMV Office Is Closest to You?

Straight-line distances from a few neighborhoods in each part of the city, including offices just outside the city limits:

  • San Fernando Valley: Winnetka for the West Valley (Woodland Hills about 2.5 miles) and Van Nuys for Sherman Oaks (about 3) and North Hollywood (about 5). In the northeast Valley, Arleta handles vehicle work for Sylmar (about 4 miles), and the nearest licensing offices are Newhall and Van Nuys (about 7 and 8).
  • Hollywood and Koreatown: Hollywood for licenses (Koreatown about 2.5 miles), and Hope Street or the West Hollywood office for vehicle work.
  • Downtown and the Eastside: Lincoln Park, about 2.5 miles from both City Hall and Boyle Heights. Eagle Rock is a little closer to the Glendale DMV, at about 4.5 miles.
  • South Los Angeles: Hope Street (Leimert Park about 3 miles). Watts is about 6 miles from Hope Street, Hawthorne and Bell Gardens alike.
  • Westside: Santa Monica for Westwood and Venice (about 3 miles each) and Culver City for Westchester (about 3).
  • Harbor area: San Pedro, about 2 miles from Wilmington and Harbor City, once it reopens on Nov. 18; until then, Torrance is about 2.5 miles from Harbor City and 4.5 from Wilmington.

Commercial skills tests are also given at the Gardena commercial drive test center, and the Inglewood office, still listed on some DMV pages, has been closed since Feb. 11, 2025.

Kiosks Open Every Day

Before You Go

Appointments are optional except for drive tests, and the DMV’s wait times page shows the current waits at every office, so compare two nearby offices before you choose. Start any license or REAL ID application online and bring the originals; the DMV’s REAL ID checklist lists accepted documents, and our California DMV appointment guide covers booking, drive tests and what to bring. For vehicle paperwork, see our guide to registering a car in California; use tax in the city of Los Angeles is 10.25% as of October 2026. Offices take cash, checks, money orders, cards and digital wallets (with a 2.1% fee on cards and wallets) and close on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Thanksgiving (Nov. 26–27), Christmas (Dec. 25) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2027). Our California DMV offices list covers the rest of the county and the state.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many DMV offices are in Los Angeles?

Seven inside the city: Hope Street, Lincoln Park, Hollywood, Arleta, Van Nuys, Winnetka and San Pedro. Neighboring cities such as West Hollywood, Culver City, Santa Monica and Glendale have their own offices.

Which office is the Los Angeles DMV?

The office the DMV calls Los Angeles is at 3615 S. Hope St. The Los Angeles Metro Industry Business Center, at 1365 N. Grand Ave. in Covina, serves dealers and other vehicle-industry customers, not the public.

Is any DMV office in Los Angeles open on Saturday?

No. All seven are open on weekdays only, but grocery store kiosks across the city, such as the Ralphs at 2600 S. Vermont Ave., are open every day for registration renewals and records.

Conclusion

Los Angeles has seven DMV offices with different jobs, so match the office to the task first: Hollywood only for licenses, Arleta only for vehicles and CDL or motorcycle tests, and Winnetka for every kind of drive test. Then pick the nearest one, compare live waits, and use a grocery store kiosk for renewals and records.
