Drive Tests at Winnetka

Every drive test here is by appointment. For a Class C test, bring your permit, a licensed driver who is at least 18 (25 if you’re a minor) and an insured, registered vehicle that passes the examiner’s safety check; our California DMV appointment guide lists the vehicle checks and retest rules. Motorcycle riders under 21 need the California Motorcyclist Safety Program course and six months with a permit.

Winnetka is also on the DMV’s list of CDL test sites and isn’t one of the three it excludes from the modernized skills test. Book online or at 1-800-777-0133, and check the DMV’s CDL page first: hold your commercial learner’s permit at least 14 days, finish any required entry-level training before the test date, and bring the vehicle for your class, a CDL holder with the right class to ride with you and a tire gauge. You get three tries, and each retest costs $46.

Before You Go

Start any license or REAL ID application online and bring the original documents; the DMV’s REAL ID checklist lists what’s accepted. For vehicle paperwork, see our guide to registering a car in California; use tax in the city of Los Angeles is 10.25% as of October 2026. Registration renewals and records go to the kiosk or the DMV website, and grocery store kiosks nearby include the Vons at 19333 Victory Blvd. in Reseda (6:00 a.m.–midnight daily) and the Ralphs at 22915 Victory Blvd. in West Hills (5:00 a.m.–1:00 a.m. daily). The office takes cash, checks, money orders, cards and digital wallets (with a 2.1% fee on cards and wallets) and closes on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Thanksgiving (Nov. 26–27), Christmas (Dec. 25) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2027).
