Greece DMV (NY) at Greece Ridge Mall: Hours & Saturdays

The Greece DMV is Monroe County’s west-side motor vehicle office, inside The Mall at Greece Ridge at 152 Greece Ridge Center; enter through mall entrance 2. It’s open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, and it’s the only Monroe County DMV with Saturday hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month, except in November and December. Finding the DMV Inside The Mall at Greece Ridge

The office is inside the mall rather than in a building of its own, so the easiest way in is mall entrance 2. Monroe County describes that entrance as near Ruby Gordon, and the state DMV’s listing says it’s near Goodwill. Because the DMV is part of the mall, a mall-wide problem can close it too: a water main break shut both the mall and the DMV in January 2026.

Saturday Hours at the Greece DMV

Greece is the only Monroe County DMV that opens on Saturdays. From January through October, it’s open on the last Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for walk-ins, REAL ID transactions and permit test appointments. There are no Saturday hours in November or December, so the last Saturday opening of 2026 is October 31, and Saturdays then return on the last Saturday of January.

Appointments and Qless Check-In

Like every Monroe County DMV, Greece requires appointments for permit tests, REAL ID licenses and IDs, and Enhanced licenses and IDs. Everything else is walk-in business. Book through Monroe County’s DMV page or at the kiosk in the office, then check in at the kiosk when you arrive and choose whether you have an appointment or are walking in. The county’s Qless system, in use since February 2, 2026, texts you when it’s your turn and which documents to have ready.

These windows come from the state DMV’s listing for Greece, which says car and motorcycle permit tests are available up to an hour before closing but also notes “Class D until 11:30 AM,” so book a morning slot for a car permit test. The listing doesn’t extend the CDL, enforcement, REAL ID or dealer windows into Tuesday evenings, which are best used for walk-in business such as registrations, renewals and plate transfers.

Plate Surrenders Without the Wait

Monroe County keeps a plate surrender bin near the entrance of each DMV office, available only during office hours. A plate surrender costs $1, payable by cash or check to “Monroe County Clerk,” and the county mails your receipt to you. You can also surrender plates by mail.

Registering a Vehicle at the Greece DMV

Greece registers vehicles and issues plates as walk-in transactions, including on Tuesday evenings and the Saturdays it’s open. Monroe County residents pay a county use tax of $10 or $20 with each two-year registration, depending on the vehicle’s weight, but no MCTD fee. Bring proof of ownership, proof of New York insurance, your identification and proof of sales tax, and see our guide to registering a car in New York for the forms and fees.

Driver’s Licenses, REAL ID and Enhanced Licenses

Renewing Your License

You can renew up to one year before and up to two years after your license expires. If you already have a REAL ID or Enhanced license, or you’re keeping a Standard license, you can renew online after passing an eye test with an approved provider. Switching to a REAL ID or Enhanced license, updating your photo or changing your license class takes an office visit.

REAL ID or Enhanced?

Both can be used to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings. An Enhanced license can also be used to cross the U.S. border from Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries by land or sea, and it costs $30 more; a REAL ID costs the same as a Standard license.

License Fees

ItemFee
Class D license renewal$64.50
Class D license renewal with MCTD fee$80.50
Enhanced license$30 on top of the regular fee
Replacement license or learner permit$17.50

Monroe County isn’t in the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District (MCTD), so residents pay $64.50 for a Class D renewal.

Before You Go: Payment and Closures

Payment

Monroe County doesn’t list accepted payment methods for counter transactions. Its recorded DMV helpline, (585) 753-1604, answers common questions, and the state DMV’s live line is (518) 486-9786.

Holiday and Temporary Closures

As a county office, the Greece DMV follows Monroe County’s holiday schedule. It will be closed for Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, 2026. Temporary closures, including ones caused by problems at the mall, are posted on Monroe County’s DMV page.

Services You Can Complete Online

Some transactions don’t need a trip to Greece at all. On the DMV website, you can:

  • Renew your driver’s license, if you’re eligible and pass an eye test with an approved provider
  • Renew a vehicle registration, before it expires or up to one year after
  • Schedule a road test

You can’t renew a registration online if the vehicle hasn’t been inspected in the past 12 months. Office appointments in Monroe County are booked through the county’s Qless system, not the DMV website.
