West Palm Beach DMV Offices: Tax Collector Locations and Closed Offices

In West Palm Beach, every DMV service, from driver’s licenses and REAL ID to car tags and titles, is handled by the Palm Beach County Tax Collector. There is no state-run DMV office in the city. The Tax Collector has one service center in West Palm Beach itself, downtown on North Olive Avenue, and several more a short drive away. All of them work by reservation only.

Offices that have closed

Many directories and map apps still list two West Palm Beach area offices that no longer serve the public. Don’t plan a visit to either one.

  • 571 N. Military Trail (state driver license office): this was a state-run driver license office. Driver’s licenses in Palm Beach County are now issued by the Tax Collector, and this address isn’t one of its service centers.
  • 200 Civic Center Way, Royal Palm Beach: the Tax Collector closed this office in February 2022 and replaced it with the Westlake Service Center.

Which office should you choose?

  • Downtown is the only service center inside West Palm Beach. It handles licenses and vehicle services but does not give road tests, and downtown parking is paid.
  • Central Palm Beach in Greenacres is a free-standing building on Military Trail, just past Lake Worth Road, and also offers hazmat fingerprinting.
  • North County in Palm Beach Gardens sits across from The Gardens Mall.
  • Westlake is the closest center for Royal Palm Beach and the western communities.

Because every center needs a reservation, the best choice is often simply the one with the earliest open slot.

Reservations are required

In-person service at every Palm Beach County service center is by reservation only, and reservations are for Palm Beach County residents. Book through the Tax Collector’s reservation page, where you can also cancel or reschedule. Every center has a drop box for paperwork that doesn’t need a visit.

Services

  • Driver’s licenses: renewals, replacements, address and name changes, REAL ID and first-time Florida licenses
  • Vehicle registrations, titles and license plates
  • Vessel and boat registrations and titles
  • Property tax and business tax payments
  • Hunting and fishing licenses

Road tests

The downtown West Palm Beach center doesn’t give road tests. When you book a road test, choose that service in the reservation system and it will show which service centers have openings.

What to bring for a license or REAL ID

If your Florida license already has the gold REAL ID star, you usually only need it and, if you’re moving, two proofs of your new address. Otherwise, bring originals of:

  • A certified U.S. birth certificate or valid U.S. passport (or other accepted proof of identity)
  • Proof of your Social Security number, such as your card, a W-2 or a pay stub showing the full number
  • Two proofs of your residential address, such as a lease, mortgage statement or utility bill
  • Certified marriage certificates or court orders for any name change

Fees and payment

  • The Tax Collector accepts cash, checks, money orders and credit cards.
  • Florida adds a $6.25 service charge to driver license transactions processed at a tax collector office.

Skip the trip: online options

  • Registration renewals can be done online in most cases, and you can request a duplicate registration online too.
  • Driver’s license renewals: your renewal notice says whether you can renew online through the state’s MyDMV Portal.
  • Electronic titles: if your title is electronic, you can request a printed copy online instead of visiting.

Holiday closures for the rest of 2026

  • Columbus Day: Monday, October 12
  • Veterans Day: Wednesday, November 11
  • Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day: Thursday, December 24, and Friday, December 25
