Bronx DMV Offices: Bronx Terminal Market and Commerce Avenue

The Bronx has two state-run DMV offices: the Bronx District Office at the Bronx Terminal Market, 610 Exterior Street, which replaced the old Fordham Road office in fall 2025, and the Bronx License Center at 1350 Commerce Avenue in the East Bronx. Both Bronx DMV offices are open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offer the same in-person services and take reservations, which the DMV strongly encourages. The Bronx traffic ticket (TVB) office moved to the Bronx Terminal Market along with the district office.

Which Bronx DMV Office Should You Use?

  • Bronx District Office: The newer of the two, at the Bronx Terminal Market in the South Bronx. The DMV says it has direct access to a public transportation hub and ample parking compared with the old Fordham Road office, and the Bronx TVB is in the same space.
  • Bronx License Center: The better pick if you’re driving from the East Bronx, Westchester or across the Whitestone Bridge. The DMV directs drivers to the Hutchinson River Parkway, then to Commerce Avenue.

Despite its name, the License Center lists the same services as the District Office, including vehicle registrations.

Services at Bronx DMV Offices

The DMV lists the same in-person services for both offices:

  • Upgrade to a REAL ID or Enhanced license
  • Renew a license, permit or ID with a new photo, or without a new photo
  • Exchange an out-of-state license
  • Take a car or motorcycle permit test
  • Restore a revoked or suspended license
  • Apply for a restricted or conditional license
  • Change the name or other information on a license, permit or ID
  • Get a non-driver ID
  • Get a CDL after passing a CDL road test
  • Register a vehicle and get plates

Road tests aren’t taken at the offices; schedule them online or by calling (518) 402-2100, which is open 24 hours a day.

How to Make a Reservation

  1. Go to the DMV’s reservation system.
  2. Choose your transaction and either Bronx office.
  3. Pick an open date and time, and complete the DMV’s Document Guide before your visit.

Walk-ins are possible, but when an office has long wait times, only customers with a reservation are let in.

Hours and Holiday Closures

Both offices are open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and closed on weekends and state holidays, including Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The Fordham Road DMV Has Moved

The Bronx District Office on East Fordham Road closed in late September 2025 and reopened at the Bronx Terminal Market, 610 Exterior Street. If you have an older address or directions, update them before you go.

Traffic Tickets in the Bronx

The Bronx Traffic Violations Bureau office is at 610 Exterior Street, Suite B3-02, alongside the Bronx District Office. It handles New York City moving-violation tickets, not DMV transactions, and it’s open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with hours until 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Call (718) 488-5710 with ticket questions, or see our guide to NYC Traffic Violations Bureau offices.

Fees and Payment

Bronx residents pay the MCTD fee, so a Class D license renewal costs $80.50. An Enhanced license adds $30, and a REAL ID costs the same as a Standard license. DMV offices accept cash; credit, debit and prepaid cards that don’t need a PIN, including American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa; Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay; and personal checks or money orders payable to Commissioner of Motor Vehicles.
