REAL ID Appointments at the Wallington MVC

The MVC added REAL ID appointments at Wallington, Hazlet and Turnersville on August 18, 2026, after adding them at four other vehicle centers in the spring, to cut wait times for REAL ID. Wallington offers two appointment types:

Appointment typeWho it’s for
REAL IDPeople whose license or ID isn’t due for renewal within the next three months
Renewal: license or non-driver IDPeople whose license or ID expires within three months; you renew and upgrade to REAL ID at the same visit

Bring identity documents worth six points, two proofs of your address and proof of your Social Security number, all originals or certified copies. A REAL ID costs $35, compared with $24 for a standard license or ID, and your new card is mailed to you in two to four weeks.

Do You Need an Appointment at the Wallington MVC?

Yes. Titles, registrations, plate transactions, registration renewals that can’t be done online and REAL ID are all handled by appointment at Wallington. Only a few quick services take walk-ins.

Registering a Vehicle at the Wallington MVC

Book a “New title or registration” appointment and bring the title, your ID, proof of New Jersey insurance and a completed Form BA-49, plus Form OS/SS-UTA for an out-of-state title. A title transfer costs $60, or $85 with a lien; registration for most passenger cars runs $46.50 to $84 a year; and purchases are taxed at 6.625%. If you bought from a private seller, you have 10 working days to transfer the title. Our guide on how to register a car in New Jersey has the full checklist.

A vehicle registered from out of state must be inspected within 14 days. Wallington doesn’t inspect cars; the closest state station is the Paramus inspection station on West Century Road, with the Secaucus station another option. Neither requires an appointment.

Other License Business Near Wallington

For a first license or permit, a knowledge test, an out-of-state transfer or a name change, go to a licensing center. The closest is the Lodi MVC at 8 Mill Street, which is also a road test site; Paterson’s licensing center at 125 Broadway is another nearby option. Our NJ MVC appointment guide explains which appointment type to book.
