- From the west: Take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 73 (Route 58) and continue east on Route 58 for about 2 miles. Go through the traffic circle and stay on Route 58 east for another 2 miles; Peconic Plaza is about 1,000 feet past McDonald’s, on the left.
- From the east: Take Sunrise Highway to Route 24 north and go about 5 miles, then turn right at the light onto Route 105. At the third light, turn left onto Route 25; almost immediately after the intersection of Routes 25 and 58, turn right into Peconic Plaza.
Registering a Vehicle at the Riverhead DMV
Riverhead registers vehicles and issues plates. Bring proof of ownership, proof of New York insurance and your identification, and see our guide to registering a car in New York for the documents and fees.
Driver’s Licenses, REAL ID and Enhanced Licenses
Renewing Your License
You can renew up to one year before and up to two years after your license expires. If you already have a REAL ID or Enhanced license, or you’re keeping a Standard license, you can renew online after passing an eye test with an approved provider. Switching to a REAL ID or Enhanced license, updating your photo or changing your license class takes an office visit.
REAL ID or Enhanced?
Both can be used to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings. An Enhanced license can also be used to cross the U.S. border from Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries by land or sea, and it costs $30 more; a REAL ID costs the same as a Standard license.
License Fees
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Class D license renewal | $64.50 |
| Class D license renewal with MCTD fee | $80.50 |
| Enhanced license | $30 on top of the regular fee |
| Replacement license or learner permit | $17.50 |
Suffolk County is in the MCTD, so residents pay the MCTD fee and their Class D renewal costs $80.50. The fee depends on where you live, not on which office you visit.
