What to Bring: Document Checklist
Having the correct paperwork is essential.
For a Title Transfer (Buying from a Private Seller):
- The original Ohio Certificate of Title, with the seller’s signature notarized.
- A valid, government-issued photo ID (like your driver’s license).
- Payment for title fees and applicable sales tax.
For a New Vehicle Title (Buying from a Dealer):
- The Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO) provided by the dealership.
- The sales agreement or bill of sale.
- Lienholder information (if you have a car loan).
- A valid photo ID.
For a Duplicate Title (Lost or Stolen):
- A valid, government-issued photo ID.
- Payment for the duplicate title fee.
