The state DMV lists three services as not offered at this office:

  • Enforcement transactions, such as clearing a suspension or restoring a revoked license
  • Oral knowledge tests, where the permit test questions are read aloud
  • Dealer plates and other dealer transactions

If you need one of these, check with another Delaware County office before making the trip.

Now in the Town Offices on Grand Street

The Sidney DMV used to be in the Civic Center at 21 Liberty Street. The Sidney town board approved moving the office into the town hall building in 2021, and it now operates from the Town of Sidney’s offices at 44 Grand Street. Listings that still give the Liberty Street address are out of date.

Registering a Vehicle at the Sidney DMV

Sidney registers vehicles and issues plates. Delaware County doesn’t charge a county vehicle use tax and isn’t in the MCTD, so residents don’t pay either of those on top of the state registration, plate and title fees. Bring proof of ownership, proof of New York insurance, your identification and proof of sales tax, and see our guide to registering a car in New York for the forms and fees.

Driver’s Licenses, REAL ID and Enhanced Licenses

Renewing Your License

You can renew up to one year before and up to two years after your license expires. If you already have a REAL ID or Enhanced license, or you’re keeping a Standard license, you can renew online after passing an eye test with an approved provider. Switching to a REAL ID or Enhanced license, updating your photo or changing your license class takes an office visit.

REAL ID or Enhanced?

Both can be used to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings. An Enhanced license can also be used to cross the U.S. border from Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries by land or sea, and it costs $30 more; a REAL ID costs the same as a Standard license.

License Fees

ItemFee
Class D license renewal$64.50
Class D license renewal with MCTD fee$80.50
Enhanced license$30 on top of the regular fee
Replacement license or learner permit$17.50

Delaware County isn’t in the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District (MCTD), so residents pay $64.50 for a Class D renewal.

  • Renew a vehicle registration, before it expires or up to one year after
  • Schedule a road test
  • Make a reservation for an office visit
