Alachua County Tax Collector – Northwest Gainesville Branch

If you are looking for the “DMV” on NW 34th Street, you are looking for the Alachua County Tax Collector’s Northwest Branch.

Critical 2026 Update: Contrary to older listings, this is a Full-Service location. It is the only branch in Alachua County that offers behind-the-wheel Road Skills Tests. Do not go to the downtown office for a driving test; you must come here.

How to Schedule an Appointment

In 2026, the Alachua County Tax Collector operates on a “Appointment First” model. Walk-ins are accepted but may face wait times of 1-2 hours or be turned away if the queue is full.

  1. Go Online: Visit AlachuaCollector.com.

  2. Select “Make an Appointment”: Choose the Northwest Branch.

  3. Choose Service:

    • Select “Driver License Service” for renewals.

    • Select “Road Test” specifically if you need to take the driving exam.

  4. Confirm: You will receive a confirmation via text/email.

Pro Tip: New appointment slots often open at 8:00 AM each morning. If you need a Road Test, book 3-4 weeks in advance as slots fill quickly.

For Driver’s License / Real ID:

  • Vision Test: As of 2025, a vision screening is required for all renewals. This is done for free at the counter.

For Vehicle Registration:

  • Florida Insurance: Proof of active Florida insurance (digital card is okay).

  • Title: If selling/buying, bring the paper title signed by the seller.

To save time, book your appointment online and check your documents before driving over.
